Har Ki Pauri and the Upper Road are the walkable pilgrim centre, closest to the evening Ganga aarti and the busiest at festivals; Kankhal and Bhupatwala are calmer, ashram-lined neighbourhoods; Shantikunj and Saptrishi sit along the river towards Rishikesh; Jwalapur, Ranipur and the Delhi Road are practical bases with easier parking. For big snan days, stay within walking distance of the ghat you plan to bathe at.
